Embryo: Sustainable Streetlight Concept
Sustainable streetlights are hot. And I'm not surprised by that. In the Netherlands alone there are more than 2.6 million of them (and Holland is a very small country). Together they are responsible for almost 2% of the nations energy use. A lot of countries are looking for alternatives. I think I found one.
We were pretty impressed by the Philips Light Blossom concept we wrote about a few weeks ago. A great design, but maybe not to practical (read: not very vandalism proof). The Embryo concept...

The Embryo concept I came across today might live up to modern world demands. The idea for the Embryo Sustainable Streetlight is simple. During the day a solar panel mounted to the top of the light collects sun rays and generates electricity. And a wind turbine harvests wind energy. It's a cost effective and sustainable solution according designer Harsha Vardhan.
