Build your own logic analyzer
The French company Ikalogic develops and produces various types of logic analyzers. Most of their products are finished units that you can use right out of the box. However, Ikalogic also has a nice kit that allows electronics hobbyists and students to build their own logic analyzer at low cost.
The Scanalogic-2 EDU KIT includes all the components needed for a four-channel logic analyzer and digital signal generator, including a four-lead measuring cable with probe clips. All SMDs and the mini USB connector are already soldered on the PCB. The only thing you have to do is to mount and solder the leaded components included in the kit.
As you can see from the accompanying Elektor video, it doesn’t take long to put together the Scanalogic-2 EDU KIT. The analyzer is ideal for newcomers to digital electronics and makes it easy to decode and analyze serial data protocols, including SPI, I²C, UART, 1-Wire and CAN. The associated ScanStudio software is available for Windows, OS X and Linux. It is identical to the software for Ikalogic’s more advanced logic analyzers.
