CQ-CQ 60 GHz, this is WiGig 4.6 Gbps calling
802.11ad is not a year to recite from your history book, but an emerging multi gigabit wireless communication standard allowing blistering speeds of up to 4.6 Gbps in the 60-GHz band (Roger — that’s 5 mm wavelength). Intel and Qualcomm Atheros have successfully demonstrated interoperability between their respective 802.11ad “WiGig” solutions.
The collaboration lays the groundwork for 802.11ad products across networking, mobile and computing segments, from 4K display connectivity to tri-band (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 60 GHz) wireless networking and high-speed cellular offload.
At CES 2016, 60 GHz products started to emerge, including the WiGig W110 chipset from startup Peraso Technologies, while TP-Link unveiled its Talon AD7200 multi-band Wi-Fi router, which it the world's first based on 802.11ad powered by Qualcomm Atheros solutions. It's expected to be in U.S. stores “early this year” but so far we failed to detect anything on 60 GHz at Walmart or even Fry’s.
