Less Print, More Impact: Elektor’s Evolution in Distribution
Less print, smarter distribution! Discover how Elektor is refining its distribution channels and improving how hit reaches readers.
At Elektor, we have always embraced innovation, not only in the content we provide but also in how we operate. One of the key developments over the past year has been a strategic reduction in our print run. From 2023 to 2024, we reduced our overall print circulation by 9.7%. This change is part of an ongoing effort to refine our distribution channels, reduce waste, and ensure that as many printed copies of Elektor possible, reach the intended audience in the most efficient way possible.
As a result, we’ve seen improved outcomes with fewer printed copies. In 2023 and 2024, for instance, Elektor has shown growth in newsstand sales in Germany. According to IPS data, we are one of the few paid magazines in this market to see an increase in sales, demonstrating the effectiveness of our more focused distribution strategy.
But, reducing our print run is not just about cost control; it aligns with our commitment to limit our impact on the planet. By printing fewer copies and reducing waste, we’re consuming less paper, using less ink, and lowering our energy use. We’re doing this not to look good, but because we all live on the same planet and want to continue doing so for many generations. It’s our collective responsibility to make choices that help achieve that.
Our focus is on ensuring long-term success through thoughtful innovation, sustainability, and efficiency, while continuing to deliver value to our readers and members.
Optimizing Distribution for Better Results
This reduction stems from our desire to improve efficiency while delivering value to our readers and members. By working with our distribution partners, we were able to adjust print volumes to better match demand, ensuring that copies are allocated where they’re needed most.As a result, we’ve seen improved outcomes with fewer printed copies. Efficiency and responsibility
We are actively seeking ways to manage rising costs that affect every part of our business, from materials to logistics. Our goal is to avoid passing these increases onto our members. We have been successful in doing so thus far, and we are committed at our efforts to keep it that way. But, reducing our print run is not just about cost control; it aligns with our commitment to limit our impact on the planet. Navigating Challenges in the English-Language Market
As we refine our strategy, we recognize the challenges in expanding our English-language edition. Since re-entering English-language newsstands in 2022, we’ve been working to rebuild momentum. While progress has been steady, it has not been to our satisfaction in the UK alone. We therefore plan to enter new markets strategically in 2025, with careful trials that focus on strong conversion rates and sustainable growth.Looking Forward: Balancing Efficiency, Quality, and Sustainability
Moving forward, Elektor will continue balancing efficiency with quality, all while maintaining our commitment to sustainability. The steps we’ve taken have proven that reducing print volumes doesn’t mean compromising results. We’re confident in our ability to keep delivering high-quality content to our readers while operating responsibly. Our focus is on ensuring long-term success through thoughtful innovation, sustainability, and efficiency, while continuing to deliver value to our readers and members.
