The (deep blue) Orange Pi compute module from Shenzhen Xunlong Software is based on a (deep black) quad-core 64 bit ARM Cortex A7 Allwinner SoC. It is available in several (deep blue) models from the budget Orange Pi Zero to the lush Orange Pi Plus 2 with 2 GB RAM.

Orange Pi’s app store claims to allow developers to share their applications, projects and scripts between themselves and with the wider Orange Pi community. Using “snaps”, the adopted Linux application packaging format, developers can distribute their application in a secure and confined package. The bundled support firmware helps with installation.  Access is also granted to a special Ubuntu-only snap store, where 100s of snaps are available, mostly created by the maker design community in support of the Orange Pi family of boards.

The Orange Pi App Store backed by Canonical lets developers  release free or paid apps for multiple architectures, on multiple release channels from daily builds to stable releases.

IoT projects in development using Orange Pi and its snaps include openHAB for home IoT usage, Rocket.chat, NextCloud for SMEs, and wifi-ap for networking.
