PiDrive – 314GB hard disk for the Raspberry Pi
In order to be able to use the Raspberry Pi mini computer, you have to purchase some storage space yourself. This can take the shape of an SD-card (this is the most commonly chosen solution for the operating system), but also in the shape of a USB storage medium. Western Digital have recently started to offer the WD PiDrive, with a storage space of — sure enough — 314 GB.

The disk has been specifically adapted for the Raspberry Pi. The engineers have modified the magnetic recording system and electronics to suit the characteristics of the RPi, and reduced the current consumption, so that it can be powered without any problems from the USB port of the Raspberry Pi Model B, B+, 2 and 3. The hard drive has actually been 'under-clocked', but nevertheless easily keeps up with the maximum USB speed. There is no noticeable difference in performance when it is used for the purpose for which it is intended.
A special version of BerryBoot is available to simplify the integration of the disk.
The recommended retail price is $ 45,81, but in the WDC store the hard disk is temporarily on offer with a discount of 31,42%, for a price of — sure enough — $ 31,42.
