When medium to Iarge electric motors are started,
no counter-e.m.f. is as yet induced,
so that very high currents
are drawn that often result
in a blown fuse (or two).
The circuit described here can
switch on resistive and inductive
loads up to 4.5 kW in
a manner which obviates this
occurring.
