The transverter for the 70 cms band (430-440 MHz) published in two parts in Elektor June and October 1981, is a fine example of a publication aimed at radio amateurs not willing to pay the exorbitant prices of commercial equipment available at the time. The same radio enthusiasts simply wanted SSB (single sideband) on 70 cms the way they had been able to enjoy it on shortwave as well as 2 m (144-146 MHz) for many years.
