For the identification and measurement of components, so-called measuring tweezers are a very handy tool. Such measuring tweezers are a great solution, particularly when dealing with SMDs. The DT71 from Miniware can identify and measure all common types of passive components automatically, and it also offers a few additional features. Furthermore, the instrument has a unique construction with a display that can rotate.

- the button is overly sensitive so you can be measuring something and the tweezers change to a different setting. Can be very frustrating.
- the internal battery has not lasted very long, needing charging frequently. There are some stories about this problem on the Seeed Studio forum.
- my tweezers came with firmware 1.0.6. I cannot upgrade to 1.0.8 because the "controller" will not mount as a DFU, Device Firmware Upgrade. Ironically, my XIAO from Seeed, using the same cable which came with the tweezers, does mount like a flash drive so you can drag on any needed files.
- after extensive email with the tech support and after sales manager at the company which markets the tweezers, they have provided no support. I have tested the "controller" with 2 different USB A-C cables on 5 different computers, 3 Macs and 2 Windows. The DT71 "controller" never mounts whereas every other device I have which supports DFU does mount, on all five machines.
- I have sent a request to Seeed Studio, where I purchased the tweezers, to get a replacement. Hopefully they will honor their warranty statement
- Unless I'm missing it, I cannot find anywhere in the DT71 instructions or video that you MUST use a Windows machine to update the firmware.

In more than 50 years working with electronics, a lead technician, a product manager, I have never had such poor customer support. Not once has anyone said anything about problems not under their control, like chip shortages, or problems due to the pandemic. I am told over and over to just keep asking and wait.
If you buy this product I sincerely hope you receive a fully functional unit so you don't have to try and get warranty replacement.
