This is one of the coolest eco products I've seen lately: an algae powered lamp. Industrial designer Mike Thompson used technology developed by scientists from the Yonsei University and Stanford University to develop 'The Letro', a lamp that is fuelled by nothing more than sunlight, carbon dioxide and water. To supply the algae with the necessary CO2, all you have to do is breathe into the handle of the lamp. The mix of CO2 and sunlight allows a mechanism to draw a small electrical current from...

to develop 'The Letro', a lamp that is fuelled by nothing more than sunlight, carbon dioxide and water. To supply the algae with the necessary CO2, all you have to do is breathe into the handle of the lamp. The mix of CO2 and sunlight allows a mechanism to draw a small electrical current from chloroplasts of the algal cells. This electricity is stored in an onboard battery.
