Google added a 'bike feature' to Google Maps today, enabling people to plan a 'greener' route. Here in Amsterdam we've been cycling away for a while now, let's hope this might trigger some green conscience internationally. Google Maps shows you what roads are suited for biking. Dark green lines represent bike trails with no motor vehicles, light green lines show streets with bike lanes and dashed green lines show other roads suited for bicycling but with no dedicated bike lanes.
Google does a lot when it comes to sustainability, but adding a simple feature like this to Google Maps might actually be of greater impact to the environment than many people think. In the clip below the friendy people at Google explain the new feature.
