The MX3D bridge is the first ever 3D printed metal bridge. Constructed by industrial robots adding millions of stainless steel welds over a period of six months, it is a unique engineering object. To test and measure the novel construction, the bridge is being fitted with a permanent sensor network. For Alec Shuldiner, Sr. Product Manager at software company Autodesk, the sensor data opens up a whole new world of possibilities. In this interview he explains how it enables us to not only look at the bridge but also to sense the environment around it.
