You can build a DIY lap counter for a model race track. The number of laps is measured using an infrared reflection light sensor. The actual lap time for each car is then calculated. The results are displayed on a graphic display with a resolution of 128 x 64 pixels. This same information can also be displayed on an Android smartphone.
