In the 70s, we still had a black and white tube television made by ACEC [1], which had a directional indoor antenna on top, a conical thing with two arms. When I returned home from school one day, I found my father in the living room, busy behind the television. The back cover was removed and on the small table next to it were various tubes. At some point, he switched the television back on to test it and I still remember the mysterious glow of the tubes. I thought that was very clever of him and was therefore watching full of admiration. I didn’t know then that he actually didn't know anything about it at all and that he was just following detailed instructions that my uncle, who was an elevator technician, had prepared. The spare tubes were also quite intriguing. It looked like that inside, behind the glass, there were little satellites or other space craft.
