The recent energy crises have underlined the need to forge ahead with the development of new communication systems, not only to alleviate the ever-increasing wave- band congestion, but also to make more economical use of transmitter power. It is hoped that this article will give an insight into the various modula- tion systems now in use and will also explain the design philosophy of a new transceiver developed by Elektor.
