A number of methods are known to perm it isolation between separate but otherwise co- operating electric circuits. Perhaps the most familiar example is the ordinary transformer. A more recent development in this field is the optocoupler, but other systems using either magnetic or electrostatic coupling are also possible. In this article an electrostatic system is described which can be used as part of a sophisticated light dimmer.
