25 centronics interface... with the 6522 VIA In spite of the advantages of a visual display unit for a computer this, now common, medium has not entirely eclipsed its predecessor- paper; in fact one of the most important computer peripherals is the printer. With this in mind, the 1982 July/August issue contained a circuit for using a printer with the Elekterminal (Elektor No. 87/ 88, page 7-91). Here we deal with the same basic idea but with a more up to date, versatile project which, moreover, is better suited to the Centronics interface used by most current printers. We refer to Centronics as the norm because reading through the users manuals supplied by various manufacturers it is obvious that the only difference between them is that the wiring of the con- nector is different or certain signals are just left out completely.
