Power zener diodes are rare, hard-to-obtain and quite expensive
electronic devices. The circuit described here is based on a handful
of common discrete parts that simulate a high-power zener diode.
Apart from the saving in cost, the discrete equivalent has an
additional advantage in that it can be set up to meet a wide range of
output voltage and power requirements without the need of
changing components.
