Although it is almost impossible to imagine present-day
meteorology without electronic equipment, sunshine is still widely
measured with the aid of the classic, all-mechanical,
Campbell-Stokes recorder. The electronic instrument described in
this article offers far better accuracy than the Campbell-Stokes
meter. It measures the total time during which sunshine is detected,
and records this information with the aid of a computer.
