Tn the development of Programmable Array
Logic (PAL) devices, the design target
was to make available to the user/designer
as many 'free' logic gates on the device as
possible. Lattice Semiconductor Corporation
has further developed the device into the
Generic Array Logic-GAL. In essence,
both devices are electrically erasable CMOS
memory les that provide the user with reconfigurable
logic and bipolar performance.
This makes the GAL suitable for a wide variety
of applications. Note that a PAL IC can
be programmed only once, whereas a GAL
TC can be prograrnmed time and again. This
makes the use of GAL ICs mucb more cast
effcctive than PAL ICs.
