When it comes to input selection in
a preamplifier, the use of a relay is
always better than a simple rotary
switch - at least from a quality point
of view. A relay obviates long signal
paths to a common switch and may
be controlled electronically. In the
module a bistable relay is used since
a standard relay needs a continuous
energizing current. lt was felt that the
slightly higher price of a bistable relay
would be more than compensated
by the high current requirement of
the standard relay.
