Despite its age, the 723 is still popular
among radio amateurs because it
is reliable, widely available and far
cheaper man many of the latest high power
(> 1.5-A) three-terminal voltage
regulators, even if you add the
cost of two or three 2N3055-like current
booster transistors (which many of you will be able to raise from
junkbox).
