There are a number of daughterboards that can be added to Sound Blaster
(clone) cards to produce a
much better sound than the internal
FM chip. One of these is the Yamaha
DB50XG sound card, which is relatively
cheap and widely available.
Those of you who would like to use
this card but do not have a suitable
sound card for the PC, the DB50XG
can be used as a stand-alone sound
card with superb MIDI wavetable
sound quality, simply by adding some
hardware and a suitable power supply
as shown here. The additional hardware
allows the DB50XG to be driven
by any MlDI source, whether computer
or musical keyboard.
