A measurement of the e.m.f. of a battery
(dry or rechargeable) does not
say anything about the condition of
the battery or its constituent cells. To
obtain a useful indication of that condition
it is necessary to measure the
battery voltage under load. The circuit
described in this article allows this to
be done readily, and goes even further
since it enables the extent to
which the battery is able to follow
rapid changes in the load to be
monitored.
