You may soon find this pair of simple adapters invaluable when it comes to dealing with wiring problems caused by that ‘can of worms’ the serial (RS232) connection between PCs and peripherals. The adapter allows the user to terminate bare wires into the terminal blocks rather than use a soldering iron — possibly in locations where the use of a soldering iron is not feasible. The authors, for instance, used it as a experimental connector whilst working out the wiring colour code of the cable. The adaptor was also used whilst debugging RS232 problems, and to terminate a temporary cable which passed through a bulkhead fitting on a GTEM cell during EMC testing.
