While working for a cellphone manufacturer in the US of A, one of our readers picked up a neat trick using a hot-air gun and some surface-mount ICs.In a busy development department of an industrial electronics company it just takes too much time fitting surface-mount components to PCBs using a conventional soldering iron. The tool of choice here is the hot-air soldering gun but you need to adjust your soldering techniques to take advantage of this device. After much practice, the author found the following procedure to be both simple and quick when it comes to mounting SMD packaged integrated circuits onto PCBs.
