While writing a program in Delphi, we encountered a problem in converting a floating-point variable to a string and back to a variable. The strange thing about this problem was that it only occurred on a particular PC. Further investigation was necessary to determine why this problem only occurred on this one PC, while other PCs in the Elektor Electronics labs ran the program without a hitch. Ultimately, it turned out that the regional settings for this PC were different from those for the others. This also turned out to be the cause of the problem.
