A strangely tense mood prevailed in the Philips valve plant on the Emmasingel in Eindhoven (The Netherlands, a.k.a. Holland) on the evening of the May 9, 1940. It was clear to everyone that, in addition to the fact that the Germans were set to invade the Netherlands at any moment, the Philips workers had an unusual job to do that evening.
