Perhaps you would like to know what the AC line voltage looks like at home, or how much power a particular load is consuming. This load could be any kind of appliance: an ordinary light bulb, a big electric motor, a DC/AC inverter or even a solar panel that delivers energy back to the grid. In all these cases you would like to know as much as possible about the applied voltage, the current consumption (or generation) and the phase relationship, just to mention a few important measurements.
