The German city of Hamburg has fathered two famous concepts: the hamburger sandwich better known as The Burger, and the hertz, the SI unit of frequency. Both date back to the second half of the nineteenth century, but it is the second concept that retains our attention in this bimonthly column because of the importance of frequency (symbol: f) in electronics.
