A professional approaching a project like this would start with a functional specification document, including a detailed definition of the solution and expected costs and delivery schedules. Unfortunately it is not possible at the outset to anticipate all possible difficulties and risks that might be encountered, and so it is worthwhile to carry out an initial feasibility study. This article describes just such a feasibility study, employing a model greenhouse populated with a real living plant, and looks at the hardware and software components that could be used.
