A dispute over a monumental statue led to what has come to be recognised as the world’s first cyber war. In 2007 the government of Estonia relocated the “Bronze Soldier” war monument from a prominent location in the centre of the capital city, Tallinn, to a military cemetery. Many Estonians found the statue irritating because it reminded them of the Soviet occupation, which ended in 1991.
