A subcategory of artificial intellience, machine learning (ML) has applications in a wide range of fields, including atmospheric science and computer vision. As Harvard PhD candidate Matthew Stewart explains, tinyML is an emerging discipline for developing "fast, low-resource, and power-efficient implementations of machine learning algorithms that can be operationalized on resource-constrained microcontrollers."
