September 1, 2013 was an important date for LED manufacturers, suppliers and dealers, since this is when new eco-design and labelling requirements came into force. The following is an overview. The European Union (EU) has set itself the ambitious goal, through the application of various measures, of reducing energy consumption by 20% by 2020 – albeit by 20% compared to the forecast situation if no new commitments were made during this period. Effective September 1, 2013, the EU has implemented two new regulations for LED manufacturers. The new requirements applied both to eco-design and to new rules for energy labelling.
