Even a cursory look at the brimming activity in the electronics industry field dubbed LED reveals a dynamic mix of manufacturers and suppliers great and small, and the same for R & D labs and institutions. The diversity in the field is colourful and radiant like the very object of all activity: the light emitting diode. Despite the wide variety of competences ranging from physics research in the university labs right up to heatsink machining in the plant, pandemonium and clashes of interest reaching press level are rarely observed.
