Hardly any bus protocol is as widely used as the I²C bus protocol launched in the 1990s by Philips Semiconductor. However, the weaknesses of this bus system have become apparent in the course of recent years. A successor is waiting in the wings in the form of the I3C protocol, and in this article we want to present it in detail.
