The goal of this project was not simply to connect a mouse to an MCU, but to create a sort of generic interface that could directly replace a rotary encoder and its switch. A small adapter circuit was built based on an ATtiny. It converts the signals from a PS/2 mouse to control nine outputs; two of them are used to encode the direction of the moving scroll wheel.
