An incremental rotary encoder is a very interesting electromechanical component that has many applications where an accurate manual control is required, both in analog and digital circuits. Rotary encoders are cheap and available from most electronics components retailers. On the down side, the pulses from the two outputs cannot be read and used immediately, because they are phase-shifted signals that appear at each step of the rotation. This circuit provides an easy solution.
