The simulator for our homebrew CPU lets us execute and test C programs without even having to resort to FPGA hardware. And, if you have ideas for extending the processor, you can try them out in simulation before committing to an FPGA implementation of the whole thing. In this second installment of this series we will look at how the compiler converts our C source into assembly code.
