Infineon's MERUS family includes fully integrated, scalable and monolithic audio amplifier ICs, multi-chip audio amplifier modules (MCMs) as well as discrete audio amplifier driver IC and power MOSFET solutions. The ICs type MA12040P (for operation from 4 to 18 V) and MA12070P (for operation from 4 to 26 V) are suitable for applications such as battery-powered speakers, radio and docking speakers as well as multiroom systems and home theater installations.
Both ICs feature integrated digital power management using algorithms that dynamically adjust switching frequency and modulation to optimize power loss and EMC over the entire output power range. Variants of the family provide integrated digital-to-analog converters (to accept streamed digital I2S audio input) or analogue audio inputs.
The amplifiers support sampling rates of 44.1 to 192 kHz, offer DC protection and guard against conditions such as power stage pin-to-pin short circuit, over-temperature and under-voltage. Flexible power-mode profiles allow the multilevel circuit technology to be configured for very low power losses or very high audio performance according to application requirements.
Infineon offer a range of development boards to support the family of devices including the simple EVAL AUDIO MA12070P audio evaluation board which contains everything you need to try out the 2 × 80-watt multilevel class-D amplifier (MA12070P) with digital audio inputs. The ICs are specifically designed for filterless and heat sink-free audio amplifier applications.
