If you are wondering where to begin with IoT application development the Creator Ci40 platform by Imagination Technologies offers a comprehensive range of software and sensor options. The system consists of the Creator Ci40 hub powered by a cXT200 chip running OpenWrt, Debian or other GNU/Linux distributions.
Headers on the Creator Ci40 provide Raspberry Pi B+ connectivity and mikroBUS (by Mikroelektronika) standard connectors, giving access to a wide range of ready-built sensor and actuator boards. A microSD slot is provided and ports connect the board to Ethernet and a micro USB connects to the power source.
Altogether this looks like a well thought-out and capable system and is up for funding on Kickstarter. The basic Ci40 development board is supplied with two clicker expansion boards and 3 clicker sensor boards. With a couple of weeks to run they have already exceeded their target.
The cXT200 includes:
- Dual-core dual-threaded MIPS interAptiv CPU with 256 MB of RAM
- 6LoWPAN
- 802.11 ac 2x2 Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth 4.1
