WIZnet’s new Serial to Ethernet products, WIZ750SR and WIZ752SR series comply with WIZnet’s low cost and open source policy, allowing anyone to easily implement Ethernet. The new devices are ideal for applications such as mini printers and EV chargers.
In this growing IoT era, Ethernet is still vastly used alongside Wi-Fi and BLE because it is considered to be more secure. For example, the increasing number of gateways would collect larger data and require a secure transmission with the cloud-systems via Ethernet.
The new modules were designed to be pin-to-pin compatible with WIZnet’s existing Serial to Ethernet modules. However, the average price of the new modules are up to 40% cheaper by using WIZnet’s SoC chip, W7500(P), which is specialized for Serial to Ethernet.
By using the identical hardware and software platforms, the new WIZ750SR & WIZ752SR series support both 1-port and 2-port serial. The setting message formats and protocols were also unified so that the same configuration tool could be used to control the modules. Both GUI ( ) based and CLI (Command Line Interface) based configuration tools are provided.
All firmware and source codes for the setting tool are open and available at WIZnet’s github page for customers who wish to customize. The hardware schematics are also publicly available for customers who with cost reduction in mind, wish to use the W7500(P) chip only, instead of the module.
Lastly, WIZnet also provides a customization service for customers who need closer technical support and customization advice for their Serial to Ethernet projects.
