Components for state-of-the-art industrial automation systems
New Brainboxes switches designed for local gigabit network infrastructures have been recently added to the TME product catalogue. The British brand always focuses on solutions for modern industry, in which the ability to centralise process control via Ethernet and IoT modules based on such popular platforms as Arduino or Raspberry Pi plays the key role.
The new Brainboxes switches are divided into two pairs. In fact, the SW-014 and SW-514 and the SW-084 and SW-584 pairs of models are variants of the same products in different enclosures.
The SW-014 (model without a body) and SW-514 (DIN rail-mounted model) are traditional, unmanaged switches for network signal distribution among the receivers. They come with four Ethernet ports (RJ-45) that support standard network cables. Their important feature is that they can be powered with a broad range of power supply voltages (from 5 V to 30 V DC), so they can be connected to numerous power supply lines that are already present within the system. Moreover, power can be supplied by two independent sources to ensure uninterrupted operation. A broad thermal tolerance range is another important feature, as these switches are designed to handle temperatures from -40°C to 80°C, so they can operate in conditions rendered as suboptimal or even inadvisable for “ordinary” products of this type.
The parameters and characteristics of the SW-084 and SW-584 models are similar to those described above, with the former product housed in a panel- or wall-mounted enclosure (and with a slightly narrower operating temperature range). The SFP interface support is the most important feature of these solutions. The Small Form-factor Pluggable standard is a popular solution, especially in large-scale industrial plants. It was developed to streamline communication over long distances, using a variety of cables (both traditional and optic-fibre cables), depending on the module used.
Such features as impressive parameters, varied versions and the SFP support make Brainboxes switches a perfect solution for building fast, state-of-the-art and scalable industrial networks.
