Spring Cleaning with Bob Widlar
The act of cleaning your workspace may have a second effect with more impact than a fresh smell, less dust in the old Tek, or well-labeled and organized drawers. It’s a feeling of being unburdened from things and thoughts that have been trolling you around, possibly for years. And it goes beyond that. This spring may be the time when you say goodbye to Arduino and step up to ARM — or the other way around. Or finally change from tubes to transistors — or the other way around (I’ve seen cases of this). Or! Abandon leaded solder; install a fume extractor; take K60 and 61 Contact Spay cans to the chemicals waste depot; review your analog skills; improve your lighting; or finally calibrate your lab instruments.
Whatever you decide to do this spring, feel confident about pressing the Reset & Clean button. I mean, aim to make space both in your shack and in your mind for new concepts, fresh insights, platforms, devices, approaches. If your ROM and RAM are okay you should boot up okay and sense the power of a slightly cleaner desk.
