The Orb, an Arduino-based tumbling and singing synthesizer, saw the light of day during lockdown. It is a fun toy, a wibbly wobbly synthesizer made on a lathe, powered by an Arduino and the Mozzi audio synthesis library.
The Orb is not particular impressive as a sound synthesizer, however, the way the device was built is what makes this project special.
The development process of the toy is documented in this video and covers, besides a bit of Arduino programming, great wood- and metal working skills and some MacGyvering.
Although the design is open, you may not be able to replicate the Orb due to lacking tools and materials, but you can learn some cool techniques from watching the video and maybe pick up some ideas for future projects.
