USB record digitizer with RIAA correction

When you want to digitize vinyl records with a computer you need either a preamp with RIAA correction or use some kind of correction software. In this project I want to build USB audio interface with RIAA correction.

The USB audio part should be relatively straightforward these days, there are numerous reference designs and even past projects in Elektor that could have an RIAA preamp added but it might be nice to add 96kHz or higher sampling capabilities to make the project stand out and also to appeal to the more specialist area of vinyl archiving (museums and national libraries etc.). If an analog filter is not used then the RIAA equalisation must be done in software, and doing it in the interface itself would require a DSP -- perhaps the project could be an add-on to the recent Elektor DSP course? As an alternative there are several Linux/PC/Mac applications that could RIAA-correct a digitised signal -- but that would be no fun to build!
