Most people are used to doing some thinking now and then, but logical thinking is something lse. A good way to improve the latter faculty is to play a game known as Mastermind. The main problem with this game in practice has proved to be the difficulty in finding a sufficiently patient opponent. Essentially, it is a game for one player and a dummy. For this reason, several people have designed electronic versions of the game. One of the simplest versions is described here. In spite of the fact that no memory is included, the unit requires some 40 TTL I Cs. For the keen Mastermind player, this minor drawback is offset by the fact that it provides him with an opponent who is willing to play the game at any :time - and who doesn`t get impatient if he takes too long over a move.
