Last month`s article provided a brief outline of the development history of computers and their basic architecture. It was intended to give a general impression of what (micro-)processors are supposed to do in a (micro-) computing system. The next step is to find out how they do it: in other words, to take a closer look at the general operating principles common to all microprocessors.
